This intensive one-day course is designed to strengthen both the theoretical knowledge and clinical skills required for dental therapists in modern practice. The course combines key clinical principles with hands-on operative training to build confidence in common restorative procedures.
The aim of this course is to enhance the clinical competence, decision-making, and practical skills of dental therapists by integrating evidence-based theory with hands-on operative dentistry training in a structured learning environment.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the scope of practice for dental therapists according to GDC guidance
• Apply principles of treatment planning and clinical decision making
• Understand legal and ethical aspects of patient consent
• Demonstrate safe and appropriate pain management using local anaesthesia
• Apply NICE guidelines when determining patient recall intervals
• Develop practical skills in restorative dentistry procedures
• Improve clinical confidence in rubber dam isolation and radiographic techniques
• Understand preventive treatments including fluoride application and fissure sealants
Participants will be able to:
• Describe the professional responsibilities and scope of practice of dental therapists
• Develop appropriate treatment plans based on clinical findings and radiographs
• Understand the legal requirements for obtaining valid patient consent
• Explain the principles and indications for local anaesthesia in dental care
• Apply risk-based recall intervals using NICE guidelines
Participants will gain hands-on experience in:
• Class I cavity preparation following conservative operative principles
• Class II cavity preparation with correct proximal box design
• Class II amalgam restoration achieving correct contour and occlusion
• Class II composite restoration using adhesive and incremental techniques
• Class IV composite restoration for anterior aesthetic repairs
• Class V / abrasion / erosion restorations using composite materials
• Rubber dam isolation for anterior and posterior teeth
• Radiographic techniques including periapical and bitewing radiographs using film holders
• Hall crown technique using preformed metal crowns
• Topical fluoride application for caries prevention
• Fissure sealant placement using appropriate isolation and bonding protocols

Course booking tickets are transferable for the purpose of postponement or rescheduling only, provided that a written request to [email protected] is submitted at least four (4) weeks in advance of the scheduled start date.
Requests made with less than four (4) weeks’ notice may be declined and will be treated as a cancellation without refund.
